Reunion Picnic: Celebrating Friendship After 8 Years
A picnic With School Friends |Family Reunion Picnic 2025
In this article, I’m sharing the joy of a friendship reunion picnic after eight years, cherished memories, and special moments. Learn how we gathered, reunion picnic, Friendship and more.
Hello Friends! I’m Ocibul Oc.
I have many memories at my home, school, and with my neighborhood. But school memories are special to me. I will never forget them.
‘School is the powerhouse of nostalgia, memories, and happiness’. It is completely natural to miss it.
Like you, I also miss my school days a lot. I studied in 7th standard at Barsimla in 2017. That year, I made some special friends. Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay together for long. Since then, I’ve missed them a lot!
Time flies !
It’s been around 8 long years.
At the end of 2024, I noticed that someone had created a new WhatsApp group called “Khana” (খানা) . It’s an Assamese word meaning ‘party.’
When I checked it, I was thrilled to see there were some students of our 7th standard batch! After a few discussions, we decided to plan a picnic and chose January 6, 2025, as the date.
The location? Pohumara Sapori, a picnic place of Lower Assam.
It’s all about our Family Reunion.
There’s a unique magic in reuniting with those who knew you during your formative years. I recently had the joy of celebrating friendship with my former classmates. It was a heartwarming experience filled with nostalgia and joy. It was amazing to see how everyone had changed over the years. Especially those I hadn’t met in more than 5 years.
This family reunion wasn’t just a gathering, but it was also a celebration of friendship.
Why Reunions Matter
Reunion is directly proportional to childhood You can also travel with the name of Reunion Picnic.
Travel is not just a break from routine. It’s an investment in yourself and your children. It equips them with life skills, creativity, and strengthens family bonds.
Our time at Barsimala M.E School and Barsimala M.V School feels like a chapter from a beautiful story. When we first stepped into the classroom, we barely knew each other. But as days turned into weeks and weeks into months, we became more than just classmates—we became the best of friends.
The memories of those days still bring smiles to our faces. To relive those moments and create new ones, we chose to reunite.
The Emotional Value of Reuniting – Reunion Picnic
Reunion is an emotional bridge to the past. I have missed our class 7 batch a lot. There are many memories that we built.
There were moments of joy, like playing games, with the boys vs. girls rivalry that always ended in laughter. There were also playful fights, but no matter what, we were always there for each other. Some moments felt like love stories unfolding quietly, and others were just the little, funny incidents that made school life unforgettable. We made the most of our school days, and though life has taken us on different paths with our higher education, the bond we share has never faded.
At that time, We played Kabaddi, cricket, football, Daira and many more.
(Daira (দাইৰা) is a local game of Assam where two teams participate. The game requires some space with two columns. One team stays in the columns, while the other team stays in the room. When the game starts, a player from the room tries to cross the line without being touched by the opponents, while the opponents attempt to touch the player. If the player returns to the starting point without being touched, they win.)
Unfortunately, I have no photos from that time.
When I miss these moments, I often think about organizing a reunion.
After 8 long years, we finally met.
The reunion picnic brought back all the memories of simple times when life was all about school, friends, and so much more fun.
Benefits of Reconnecting / family reunion
Reconnecting with old friends reminds us of where we came from and helps us feel a sense of belonging. It strengthens us and offers valuable insights into our natural character. Our friends often share amazing truths about us. Those are genuine and essential qualities that we should carry forward in life.
Family reunion picnics also help us remember some amazing memories, including the anthem of our batchmates.
I still remember one thing to this day—our favorite dialogue was, “Abu Tiling Tiling Pow.” It had no meaning. We actually used this sentence during rallies to request a site instead of using a horn. Lol! Those were moments of pure joy and laughter—simple yet unforgettable.
Planning the Reunion Picnic
Choosing the Date and Venue
We chose 6 January 2025 as a suitable date for the family reunion picnic. The celebration of friendship, combined with the New Year, will make it even more nostalgic.
After finalizing the date, we selected a riverside location amidst nature. There are not too many gatherings.
Another reason for this choice is that there is no entry fee. Haha !
Organizing the Reunion
Organizing a reunion picnic after 8 years is not easy. But our Class Captain of Class 7 made it easy with the help of social media. From creating a WhatsApp group chat to finalizing plans, the process itself was filled with excitement.
The reunion picnic wouldn’t have been complete without all the amazing members who made it special. Our party’s members were Dipjyoti, Raja, Rajkumar, Nitul, Barasha, Babismita, Daiji, Samir, Kamal, Rakesh Barman, Rupjyoti, Manirul, Rakesh, and me (Ocibul).
Together, we relive our childhood moments and create new memories to cherish forever.
The Activities: Fun with Friends
Today, there is no busy—just enjoy and have fun!
We started with activities that took us back to our childhood. First, we selected a good venue to begin our day. We placed a mat on the ground and sat around it together. After having breakfast, we started our singing session.
The music was undoubtedly a standout feature of the day. Dipjyoti, Raja, Rajkumar, and Nitul transformed the simple act of creating sound into an art form, using home utensils alongside their instruments. Our group sang songs, played the guitar, and the bamboo flute (bahi), while we all clapped in support.
Afterward, we explored the beauty of nature—the riverside and its stunning scenery.
While we enjoyed the surroundings, Nitul and Rajkumar were busy cooking for our party. Barasha and Babismita helped them. After the meal, we had a fun photoshoot session and ended the day by soaking in the breathtaking sunset.
Revisiting Old Memories in Reunion picnic
Taking a trip back to 2017, we found ourselves immersed in nostalgia. The start of the session, our main “Revisiting Old Memories” king, was Rakesh. He kickstarted the session, and soon, everyone was sharing their favorite memories.
Rakesh reminded me of the girl who had once proposed to me. Yes, I’ve told you all this story before! Unfortunately, she wasn’t there with us today. When she proposed to me in class 7, I had said, “I love everyone as a friend.” Lol! According to Rakesh, she cried after hearing my reply.
We laughed at our silly pranks, reminisced about our favorite teachers, and fondly recalled the little details of our classroom—the door, the windows, and everything in between. We’d remember our mistakes too, and laugh at how silly they were. Overall, we still miss our classroom to this day.
What Made It Special
As we’ve all grown up, we decided to come together again for a reunion picnic at Pohumara Chapori. The boys have become handsome and funny. The girls have also become more beautiful and cutie pie. But they’re still the same people we laughed with in school.
This reunion, filled with joy and nostalgia, is a reminder of the beautiful days we spent together, and we relive those memories once again.
