- Jakhama Route: A newer and shorter route but involves more walking compared to the Viswema route. For me, It’s the hardest one. This path is ideal for those looking for a more direct yet challenging trek. It takes quite a bit of strength and energy.
From Manipur :
- Mount Tempu Route: A six-hour trek starting from the Senapati district. This route is less trodden and offers a different perspective of the valley. Starting from Mount Tempu, the trek is rigorous and recommended for experienced trekkers.
The Trek
Difficulty
Contrary to popular belief, the Dzukou trek is not an easy one. The initial section involves a steep and challenging climb through dense forests and slippery tracks. Comfortable yet sturdy shoes are a must.
The trek tests your physical fitness and mental endurance but It offers you magnificent views and tranquil, beautiful scenery.
Duration
The trek spans approximately nine kilometres and can be completed in about five to six hours. Most trekkers prefer to complete it over two days, allowing time to fully enjoy the valley.
The first day involves the ascent and reaching the resting point, while the second day is dedicated to exploring the valley.

- Dormitory: INR 50 per person. Basic but comfortable, the dormitory provides an affordable option for budget travellers.

Personal Experiences
I went to Dzukou Valley in 2022, and it was my first solo trip and the best experience ever.
I have travelled to a lot of places, but among all the places I have seen, Dzukou Valley in Nagaland stands out as the best.
There are two main routes to the Dzukou Valley trek: one from Viswema Village and another from Zakhama Village. The Zakhama route is the hardest one. I took the Viswema Village route.
During the trek, we climbed hills, trekked on narrow roads full of rocks, and enjoyed amazing views for over five hours.
When I finally reached the base camp, I was so tired but couldn’t resist trekking into its breathtaking beauty.
I had lunch on a big rock at the top of Dzukou Valley while enjoying the beautiful views of the valley and the river below.
For the night, we relied on our sleeping bags and tents. Experience-wise, it was great.
I recommend the Viswema Village route and taking a guide with you.
